This book is involved with a vile plot to take over the timber industry! Horror of horrors. Particularly a company run by a large gentleman named Eric of Scandinavian extraction, and hiscould-make-the-Swedish-volleyball-and-Supermodel-team daughter.
The evildoer part is a bit whacky. It makes perfect sense that The Gray Spider is the leader of the Cult of the Moccasin - as in water, the snake variety, not the footwear variety, doesn't it? No? I didn't think so, either. Yellow swamp-monkey men as your underlings, sure. Voodoo, given you hang out in the Louisiana swamps, as a way to control the natives, sure. Spiders, not so much.
Plenty of Doc manhandling bad guys single handedly here. Much capturing done by all sides. Doc stacks up enough henchmen like cordwood to be shipped off to his institute, that he will need to be able to buy doctors like axes to operate on all of them!
Poisonous flies and hand grenades feature in the denouement, which a very Scooby-Doo finish, which is all enough to raise the mark a little,
overall.
